The Lasiodorides striatus, commonly known as the Peruvian Blonde Tarantula, is a remarkable species that combines beauty with an impressive presence. Native to the lush forests and grasslands of Peru, this tarantula has become a favorite among collectors due to its distinctive appearance. Adults can reach a leg span of up to 6–7 inches, making them one of the larger tarantula species in their range. Their long, fuzzy hairs not only add to their visual appeal but also serve a defensive purpose, as they can release urticating hairs to ward off threats.

There are hundreds of tarantula species found in most of the world's tropical, subtropical, and desert regions. They vary in color and behavior according to their specific environments. A tarantula doesn't use a web to trap its prey, though it may spin a trip wire to signal an alert when something approaches its burrow. These spiders grab with their legs, inject paralyzing venom, and then bite their prey with their fangs. They also secrete digestive enzymes to liquefy their victims' bodies so that they can suck them up through their straw-like mouth openings. Yum!
